About Benjamin J. Block

I was born and raised in Edmonton and pursued my education through the University of Alberta.  After earning a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction in 2004 I continued on to attend the Faculty of Law, graduating in 2009.  I subsequently completed my articles of clerkship with Brownlee LLP in Edmonton and joined Hillenbrand Kozicki LLP in 2011, allowing me to pursue my entrepreneurial nature alongside the practice of law.

My entrepreneurial past has allowed me to own, operate, buy and sell several small businesses over the years, both on my own and with partners.

I have volunteered with Edmonton Community Legal Centre, Canadian Diabetes Association, Habitat for Humanity, and The Mustard Seed among other organizations, and look forward to continued involvement in the legal profession and Edmonton community.

Philosophy

My entrepreneurial past has allowed me to own, operate, buy and sell several small businesses over the years, both on my own and with partners.  I believe that this experience, along with a pragmatic approach to the law, serves my clients well in all areas of practice.  My personal approach to the law is based on a results-oriented philosophy, and I believe a good lawyer helps his clients to understand their legal rights and responsibilities within the context of practical application.

Communication:  A common complaint made about lawyers is with respect to communication.  My goal is to respond to any call or email  within 24 hours and provide regular updates on issues that arise or steps that must be taken. This will allow your needs to be addressed efficiently and without unwanted delay.

Collaboration: In any legal matter there are several parties involved.  There may be the client, the other party, a lender, insurer, partners, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.  Although my clients’ needs are always the priority, all the other parties involved must be considered when taking steps to manage your matter effectively.  Failing to do so can increase costs, slow progress, and even jeopardize the desired outcome. By maintaining a reputation of integrity and being conscious of the many priorities and perspectives at play, I will guide your matter to the best result available.  Overly aggressive tactics and “showmanship” may play well in the movies, but professional conduct, and firm but fair dealing is best route to an effective and efficient outcome.
